Yeah, so we’ve all noticed the gas prices being raised, right?
And yeah, we all like to furrow our brows and wonder why it has to happen.
Each and every time it’s the same thing. It’s been a major part of the trend for years now, yet we still cringe at having to pay a couple extra dollars in filling our tank each time that climb rolls around again.
But do we always know exactly why it’s happening?
Do we all stop to take a look at the purpose behind it? The goodness than can possibly come from it?
Well, if you haven’t done so this time, allow us to enlighten you.
For those of us who live and breathe the roads – all things asphalt and safety – this is a pretty huge deal.
For the first time in 35 years, the California Legislature has voted to increase the fuel tax to fix roads. This time it will be the biggest overhaul in transportation funding in the history of our lovely Golden State.
Yes, it does mean we get to pay 12 cents a gallon more. Will that break our bank? Probably not. But will it fix the issues at hand? You bet it will.
This tax means a record-breaking $52 billion towards state and local pavement improvements. So, hooray!!
We’re cheering because we know. We hear the complaints – the roads people would like to be improved. The roads that haven’t been upgraded since they were originally paved. The roads you have to pull over on to check your tires because you thought you got a flat. Nope! Not a flat. It’s just a road that’s in bad shape. And you can thank this campaign. Because now you can enjoy smooth rides around town, and to all your well traveled CA routes. This is a change our cars and our happy-feels will enjoy.
